Ingredients
For the Patties:
- 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 recommended for tenderness)
- 1 packet dry onion soup mix
- ½ cup bread crumbs
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
For the Gravy:
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 packet brown gravy mix
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional, for tang)
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional but recommended)
Instructions
- Make the Patties:
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, onion soup mix, bread crumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until just combined — don’t overmix or the patties will be dense.
Shape into 6–8 oval patties. - Brown the Patties (Optional but Recommended):
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and brown each patty for about 1–2 minutes per side. This step adds extra flavor but can be skipped if you’re short on time. - Prepare the Gravy:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, brown gravy mix, beef broth, ketchup, and Dijon mustard until smooth. - Layer in the Slow Cooker:
Add sliced onions and mushrooms to the bottom of the slow cooker. Place the browned patties on top, then pour the gravy mixture evenly over everything. - Cook Low and Slow:
Cover and cook on low for 5–6 hours or high for 3–4 hours, until the patties are tender and fully cooked through. - Serve:
Spoon the rich gravy over the steaks and serve warm with your favorite side dishes.
